Hunting Sitatunga and Lechwe Species

The Mumembe Game Ranch is home to a healthy population of Sitatunga. The envy of all those that wish to hunt Africa the Sitatunga has captured the curiosity and of hunters since it was first described in 1863.
The sitatunga (Tragelaphus spekii), sometimes called the marshbuck, is a swamp-dwelling medium-sized antelope.

The species is one of the rarer, lesser known antelopes alongside the Bongo that comprise the tribe Tragelaphini, or the spiral-horned antelope family. Found in swamps and dense forests Sitatunga can be difficult to locate and to be presented with a shot opportunity is a difficult feat. Although a challenging hunt, we’ve noted key areas of interest on the ranch and built lookouts ,called Mashaans from which we are able to scout for shootable males from. These high rise structures offer hunters an excellent shooting opportunity.

The ranch is also home to both the Black and Kafue lechwe antelope. Both of our lechwe species available are kept on separate properties far enough to avoid any chance of cross breeding due to territorial and breeding differences ensuring they are not forced to compete for resources. You simply cannot say you’ve experienced hunting in Zambia fully without harvesting these incredible creatures that have adapted to living in marshy areas making the ranch and its various habitats ideal for them to thrive.

For those looking for a free-roaming lechwe experience, we offer hunting expeditions to the famous Bangweulu Wetlands located in the Luapula province of Zambia. Roughly 36,600 black lechwe call the wetlands home making this an ideal area to find you in pursuit of this iconic Zambian species.
